The University of Pennsylvania’s Graduate School of Education is receiving a $5.1 million grant in hopes to increase the number of Latino professors in the future. Educators are aware that it is often more difficult for a minority to receive their Ph.D, so the goal for this grant is to make it easier for them to receive a Ph.D.
The Graduate School of Education is hoping that within five years they hope to prepare 90 students to be able to enroll in Ph.D. programs. In this program they will have the kids attend summer conferences and be a part of summer research programs.
With 20% of the U.S. population being of Latino origin, the Graduate School of Education is hopeful that this grant will help give these students the push and more resources to help them achieve their goals and eventually become a college professor.
