John Glenn High School has adopted a mentor program deemed a success at Wayne Memorial High School. Students invite a staff member to be their mentor for one semester.
A goal was set and each participating students signed agreeing to complete the goal. Student and mentor meet regularly to determine progress toward goal completion. At the end of the semester most students had met their established goal. An added bonus was that the overall grade point average of participating students had risen.
At the end of the semester a banquet was held to honor students participating in the mentor program. Many staff members were there both as a participating mentor and to observe the ceremony.
Teachers, administrators, and students all agree that they feel the mentor program has been directly contributing to the 9.8% increase in ACT scores.
