The Australian Mounties rugby union team is known for its hard play, but it's also known for giving back to the community.
The Mounties Group, a group of more than two dozen rugby clubs in Sydney and the Central Coast, has donated more than $74,000 to dozens of projects in the area, including a mentoring program for young men, the BBC reports.
"Every dollar spent with us means we can give more and more each year to our local communities," says Mounties Group president John Dean.
The Top Blokes Foundation was one of the recipients of a $15,000 donation to improve the mental health and well-being of teenage boys, who attend high schools in the area, the Sydney Morning Herald reports.
The mentoring program, which runs for six months, focuses on topics including risk-taking and peer pressure, mental health, Respective Relationships, Online Behavior and Consequences (cyber bullying), Alcohol and Drugs, Racism, and Anger Management.
The Narara Rural Fire Brigade was also awarded a grant to buy equipment for community engagement and first-aid training.
"This grant funding will greatly support our Brigade to be armed with the equipment needed to continue community engagement on fire safety across the Central Coast and ensure our volunteers are regularly refreshed on their first aid training," says
