The Hawaii Community Foundation has awarded more than $400,000 to local nonprofits as part of its coastal restoration plans.
The coastal restoration effort is part of the foundation's Community Restoration Partnership that funds organizations dedicated to protecting and restoring Hawaii’s coastal regions. The partnership funds three specific areas: "restoring and protecting coral reef habitat, wetlands and estuaries, reducing land-based sources of pollution and funding traditional models such as fishponds that benefit the environment."
