Smart Investors Use 'Inclusion Premium' Thinking, and Here's Why

Lisa Calhoun, a founding general partner at Valor.VC, the first female-led venture capital firm in Georgia, writes about the one tool that she uses as a venture capitalist to ensure investments she makes have every opportunity to optimize ROI is the "inclusion premium".

Inclusion premium is a word Valor.VC invented and "is what happens when you manage the risks of group-think proactively instead of reactively."

Calhoun shares some of the financial statistics associated with using the inclusion premium to manage downside risk and optimize upside potential.

She also shares three ways how to use inclusion premium analysis as an additional layer of investment risk management and returns optimization: sourcing inclusion, recruiting inclusion, and governing inclusion. Calhoun points out that inclusion, if well managed, has a strong positive outcome for the investment.
