Samuel Mpamugo, who writes for the The Star (Kenya), emphasises emotional intelligence as the key factor in the innovation process.

Mpamugo reasons that innovation involves people and their emotions – and in this case, emotional intelligence is vital. He adds that emotional intelligence is how people manage interpersonal challenges that will play out in a team as they pursue a goal.

Mpamugo quotes international bestselling authors, Travis Bradberry and Jean Greaves, defining emotional intelligence as the "ability to recognise and understand emotions in yourself and others, and your ability to use this awareness to manage your behaviour and relationships."

Mpamugo breaks down three key things on how to have an effective innovation process: recognise emotions, understand emotions, and effective use of emotional awareness.
