Spreading Innovation in Equitable Contracting

The participants of the newest City Accelerator cohort was recently announced at the Governing Summit on Performance and Innovation.

City participants include: Boston, Cleveland, El Paso, Houston, Kansas City, Minneapolis, Nashville, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, and South Bend.

It's the first time that City Accelerator have expanded the cohort from three, four or five cities, to 10 cities.

The Culture, Collaboration, and Capital resource guide, created as a result of the previous cohort on procurement, collected the lessons learned by the cities of Charlotte, Chicago, Los Angeles, Memphis and Milwaukee, and explains the unique tools the cities used to make their municipal contracting systems/processes more equitable.

With technical support from Griffin & Strong, the authors of the resource guide, the 10 cities will "rethink, reform and repair their procurement systems to be more intentionally inclusive."

The 10-city cohort will commit to the next 12 months to test new ideas and lessons from the previous cohort, and provide the field with examples of how cities can leverage their municipal spending to nurture businesses that reflect resident diversity.
