GE Foundation has been a long-time provider of Stamford Public Schools since 2006. The grant amounting to a total of $25.8 million has helped plug a gaping hole in Stamford's education budget, caused by chronic underfunding by the state. Also, the grant enables the city's schools to pursue projects that other districts can pay for with their state funding.
The 2012-13 fiscal year, which begins Sunday, will pump the final $3.8 million of a seven-year, $25.8 million pledge from the Foundation's Developing Futures in Education program.
