Impact investing, or choosing where to invest your money based on your morale compass or desire to help; is becoming more prevalent in the investing world. For example, if you feel strongly about global warming, you may be most inclined to invest in a solar power startup, or an alternative energy company.

But it is not just single investors who are getting involved in impact investing. Many charities, not for profit foundations; and even governments have gotten involved in investing in the stocks of companies who are out to make a difference in the world.

However, there is currently several government restrictions placed on the practice; as the investments are often considered risky. As a result specialty portfolios have been created for those interested in getting involved in Impact investing.
