Obama Announces U.S. Support for Civic Movements Wordwide

President Obama calls on federal agencies to build more alliances with charities and community groups abroad and ensure that foreign governments do not "dictate the nature of U.S. assistance to civil society."

Obama recently gave a speech at the Clinton Global Initiative conference in New York, where he denounced regimes in Russia, Venezuela, and other countries that he and his administration believe are "vilifying legitimate dissent as subversive."
