Thousand people, runners and walkers, participated in Run for the Money 10. Participating nonprofits in the event solicit money through the run, and the Community Foundation of Gaston County matches a percentage of what the nonprofits raise.
Bert Rodriguez of Charlotte came in first place in the 5K race with a chip time of 15 minutes and 51 seconds. Last year, the event raised $1.7 million.

Three social enterprises were recognized at the 2013 President’s Challenge Social Enterprise Award for their major contributions to society. SATA CommHealth and Bliss Restaurant landed Social Enterprise of the Year titles, while Bettr Barista Coffee Academy bagged the award for Social Enterprise Start-up of the Year.
