Florida Teen Uses Grant to Improve Nutrition for Foster Kids

Fresh vegetables are the aim of a 17-year-old high school student in Boca Raton. Thoughtful Isaac Leifert has come up with an idea to provide fresh foods to a to SOS Children's Foster Care Village.

These miniature gardens consist of a container with rich potting soil in which is planted several types of vegetables. These vegetables can be grown at each participant's residence. When it is time, the fresh vegetables will be taken to the children's school.

Leifert received a $5,000 grant from two organizations to put his idea into reality. The Youth Service America (YSA) and Disney's Friends for Change made the award because it was innovative and effective for anyone who wants to participate. Leifert advanced his idea as an alternate method provide food to the hungry other than canned food.
