Bill and Melinda Gates wrote a letter in response to Priscilla Chan and Mark Zuckerberg's appearance on Time's list of the 100 most influential people. Chan and Zuckerberg have committed 99% of their wealth to charitable causes such as curing disease, improving education, improving infrastructure, and helping communities.
This is a turnaround from criticism received from Bill Gates in the past. Another billionaire, Marc Benioff, believed Zuckerberg's donation to Silicon Valley Community Foundation in 2014 was a tax write-off, "You give your money to SVCF and you get your tax write-off for the year, but [the foundation] has no obligation to administer that money."
With the birth of their daughter, Mark and Priscilla Zuckerberg set up a foundation and funded it with $45 billion of Facebook stock. This makes them among the most generous philanthropists in the world. In response, Bill Gates acknowledges Zuckerberg is no longer an amateur philanthropist.
