Making a positive social impact is a powerful and worthy goal of any entrepreneur, but many business owners lose focus on their organization's bottom line in the process of improving their communities. The key is to focus on the fundamentals of your business in order to support your social outreach and limit the scope of the impact as much as possible in order to maximize benefits.

Social impacts need to be focused and targeted for best results rather than getting distracted with related or extraneous challenges. Do one thing and do it well. Also, delivering on social promises is key to setting the stage for longer-term impacts as well as sets an organization up to solve deeper challenges.

Hiring ex-prisoners for temporary jobs and serving low-income customers are great ways to achieve social impact and improve an organization's bottom line.
