What's the Alternative to Giving Tuesday? Community Foundation Raises $1.3M in 30-hour Event

The First Community Foundation Partnership hosted its third online donation campaign this past month. Organizations from six counties were participating and will split the 1.3M dollars that was raised during the period. Community giving periods are a relatively new phenomenon that seems to be growing in popularity as a way to engage areas and encourage mass participation in charitable donation activities.

The Knight Foundation has done some research into the mechanisms behind the success of these campaigns. They publish a variety of informative works that detail how to create a successful community giving event and what behind the scenes mechanisms drive this success.

One oft cited piece of the puzzle is the importance of social media and the months in which these campaigns are mounted.
