The article "Mohawks allocated $2 million for low-income housing" Denise A Raymo discusses the money that has come into view for Native Americans on reservations in 2016. The St. Regis Mohawk Tribe is receiving the state's second-highest share of a $6 million grant for low-income-housing initiatives. This funding will go toward the community's past issues with the lack of availability of affordable housing. The grant is allowed to be used for housing development, housing management services, and any other approaches to solving the community's housing issues.

Seneca Nation received the highest allocation from HUD at $2.5 million, whereas the Onondaga Nation, Tuscarora Nation, and the Tonawanda band received $50,000 each.

Many grants in the past have aided in the Akwesasne Housing Authority. It has set up a senior-citizens complex and has expanded its rehabilitation facility.

HUD will request that the for Native American housing be increased to $700 million in the 2017 budget.
