Young people: world shapers and leaders of the future

"There are no better forecasters of resilience in the world than young people, who have been calling attention to critical sustainable development issues."

That's the assertion of the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations, which on Tuesday announced that it will hold the largest gathering of young people in its history, the 2024 ECOSOC Youth Forum, which will take place in New York on April 16 to 18.

The forum, which will be held under the auspices of the UN General Assembly, will bring together more than 5,000 young people from around the world to discuss issues such as food security, climate change, and inequality, the BBC reports.

"They have become experts on adapting to an increasingly challenging global landscape, filled with images of conflicts, climate crisis impacts, and deepening inequalities," the Economic and Social Council said in a statement.

"Yet we don't need to look far to see that young people are solving some of the biggest problems of our time."

The forum will also serve as preparation for the Summit of the Future, to be held under the auspices of the UN General Assembly in September 2024.
