A proposal to build a $200 million sports and entertainment complex in Vigo County, Indiana, has met with resistance from local youth sports leagues.
The complex would include an indoor sports complex as well as an outdoor sports complex, reports the Tribune-Star, which notes that the Vigo County Commissioners voted 4-0 Monday to move forward with the plan.
The commissioners say the complex would be a major boost to tourism in the county, which has one of the lowest unemployment rates in the state at 3.9%.
But local youth sports leagues, which would be required to pay for part of the complex, say they're worried about noise, safety, and other issues.
"It's not going to be a world-class facility," the president of the Vigo County Youth Sports Association tells the Tribune-Star.
"It's going to be a place where kids are going to get hurt.
It's not going to be safe.
It's not going to be a place where kids are going to have fun."
