Kanwal Rekhi, aka "The Entrepreneurship Pandit," is an Indian-American entrepreneur who's made a name for himself in Silicon Valley.
Now, he's bringing his know-how to rural India, where he plans to use his $30 million donation to create a rural entrepreneurship center, the Times of India reports.
The Kanwal Rekhi Rural Entrepreneurship and Startup Center, or KREST, will be located in Nizamabad, in the southern Indian state of Telangana.
It's "well poised to become a gateway for entrepreneurs from the rest of India looking to solve the challenges of rural India," says the state's IT and Industries minister, per the Times.
KREST's goal is "to build a strong rural entrepreneurship ecosystem for entrepreneurs to test their ideas, build successful ventures, and scale," according to a press release.
Kanwal's donation will go toward "skilling, startups, and micro-entrepreneurship by leveraging the large pool of talented youth in rural India," the release says.
