The Koun Association, a Casablanca-based social enterprise, has introduced an upcycling business to help creatively reuse waste to generate jobs.
Koun features wares that include everything from bowls and cushion covers to diaries across its departments, upcycling plastics, textiles and paper products.
According to Assia Rekkas, a paper department worker, the social enterprise also produces visit cards, packaging, diaries and other things to sell in supermarkets.
Koun employs 20 young men and women, where they receive skills and training in waste recovery and processing, all the way through to making the final product. Koun is active in repurposing waste and has been successful since its launch in 2017.
