The LA84 Foundation, a nonprofit that funds youth sports and coach training in Southern California, is a finalist for the Steve Patterson Award for Excellence in Sports Philanthropy.
Gifted with surplus funds from the 1984 Los Angeles Olympic Games, the Foundation has awarded more than $214 million to youth sports programs and has helped in evaluating what role sports play in the society. The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation is the sponsor of the award.
