Fulfilling the Promise of Electronic Health Records

J.B. Wogan, Senior Manager, Strategic Communications at Mathematica, shares edited excerpts of an episode of On the Evidence as they interview Genna Cohen and Llew Brown, who research and work with EHRs at Mathematica.

The interview includes the adoption of EHRs (electronic health records) in line with the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) Act.

They answered on what led federal policymakers to push for the widespread adoption of EHRs, why has information sharing been harder than expected and why should patients care whether EHRs are difficult for clinicians to use.

Discussion on the customization of these systems and variation in their use contribute to problems with them have also been tackled. Cohen and Brown also picked their next areas of research on this topic if they have the funding for it.
