Philanthropist Marion Sandler Dies at age 81

The 81-year old Marion Sandler, former CEO of Golden West Financial Corp., died last Friday at her San Francisco home. Although the cause of her death hasn’t been identified, Ms. Sandler had been ill for some time.
Marion, together with her husband Herb, launched a family foundation and joined the ranks of the region’s biggest donors after they sold the Golden West Financial Corp. amounting to $24 billion.
