A $750,000 State Grant Sought to Aid Purchase of Six Lincoln Artifacts

The Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library Foundation seeks a $750,000 state grant to help in the acquisition of six artifacts and documents connected to the Lincoln's time in Illinois.

According to foundation CEO Carla Knorowski, the items bring insight to who the Lincolns were. The six artifacts include: an alphabetized leather bill book; five volumes of Washington Irving's 21-volume biography of George Washington; Lincoln's "bass-ackwards" joke in his own handwriting; a handbill he wrote in defense of a widow named Mary Anderson in a land dispute and a promissory note for $379.82.
