Why Corporate Social Responsibility Should Be Top of Mind

Michael Alp, who's responsible for Pure Storage's rapid growth across California, writes how Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) has become a key pillar for any large organisation.

Alp tackles the need for CSR initiatives; it doesn't just show that corporate cares – it's also good for business. For listed companies, this is even more important since ivnestors are looking for evidence of CSR initiatives in annual reports. CSR also attracts talent, particulary Millennials, as Alp observes.

Alp also shares how his company, Pure Storage, has built CSR – with a focus on 'Philanthropy, People and Sustainability' – into its code of conduct so that it stays in the corporate DNA.

According to Alp, Pure is known for saving customers tens of thousands of dollars in energy costs per year. In Australia, they have the Pure Good Foundation that cater to their Australian employees so that they get involved and support charity activities.

Alp adds that good CSR efforts starts with a commitment from business leaders to challenge the status quo beyond technology or services, and concludes that business leaders are core to this and need to find ways of contributing to their communities and people.
