Innovative Youth Program Combines Coding and Dance

DanceLogic, an innovative program in Philadelphia run by the West Park Cultural Center, combines dance and coding for girls ages 13 to 17.

In a "CBS This Morning" installment, national correspondent Jericka Duncan sits down with Franklyn Athias, former Comcast senior vice president and co-founder of the dance and code program.

At first, Athias focused on starting the program designed for coding only. However, he struggled in getting kids to participate.

Athias and his friend and co-founder Betty Lindley, who runs the cultural center, planned on incorporating dance into the program. According to Athias, he wants people who are intimidated by coding to understand that it's like any other skill.

He adds that dance is an integral part of the program because most young girls who participate could not dance, but they practice. Athias also aims to give back to the community through the program.

DanceLogic offers 14-week programs, which cost $50 in total. It also provides scholarships too for those who can't afford the cost.
