The Man Who Made ProPublica Possible

ProPublica, a New York City-based nonprofit organization, has been producing investigative and evidence-based journalism to serve the public's interest for more than 11 years.

Businessman and philanthropist Herbet Sandler, the man who made ProPublica possible, recently passed away at the age of 88 years.

He was, along with his late wife, Marion, the provider of the volume of funds with which ProPublica was launched in 2007–2008, and was the chairman of the Board of Directors from 2007 to 2016.

Sandler's reason why he has a deep respect and affection for investigative journalists is because he hates it "when the bad guys win."

Sandler also provided other donors to award funding to ProPublica.
