The Importance of Systems Thinking in Social Ventures

With the ever-growing educational opportunities provided through technology, Evan Marwell saw the need for more public schools to have broadband Internet access. He chose to look at the big picture to find solutions. This perspective includes the following concepts.

Systems-Thinking must be included in the development of new technology. Developers should make available the means to expand into larger systems. They can look to local government to help accomplish this goal, and expand fiber networks to increase access.

Research and Analysis must be conducted to fully understand the system in need of change. Look to government, people, communities, and industries. This will show who needs access and who can help accomplish the goal.

Communication must be clear among all to raise awareness of the issue. Policies must be updated. Measurements and Evaluations must be conducted, as qualitative information should be provided to help further clarify communication and provide current updates.
