Farmers Market doubles SNAP benefits

The Emporia Farmers Market is starting what may become a trend at all farmers markets. This market is allowing those with a SNAP card to swipe their card for tokens that will be double the dollar amount! Tracy Simmons, who is the Market Manager, says everything will not count in the double category, but the patrons can use the tokens to buy fresh produce.

This program allows the cards to be swiped in return for tokens will be colored coded so the sellers and buyers know exactly what they can buy with what. Many with SNAP benefits only receive them for a short time, but his program of matching dollars is hoping to retain these customers for the future. They have given children vouchers to let them buy fresh produce as well. All of the matching dollars programs come from funds through various programs.
