Funding to Support Healthy Meals and Environments in Our Nation's Schools and Child Care

White's article on child nutrition focuses on educational efforts and grants which support this. She mentions National Nutrition Month (March) and the current efforts to facilitate children's skill-based choices which are enhanced by providing training to professionals like parents and educators.

The Team Nutrition initiative uses grants to provide instruction at no cost to the schools. Some resources are provided directly to children like videos, online books and games which the children can use to learn new choices. The initiative focuses on learning to eat better in the long run rather than just providing immediate choices.

Currently, the 2016 Team Nutrition Training Grant is available to continue the effort. Grants for up to $90 million have been provided partly based on success stories like the one in Michigan. This breakfast program focused on eating right and on increasing physical activity to support the positive benefits of the nutritional gains.
