Diamonds in the Rough: How the Stories of 10 Million Urban Dwellers Can Change the World

There are large societal problems that occur in urban areas, issues such as poverty and infrastructure. During an international project in Ghana, the author met a man who drew her attention to what he felt were more important problems in Ghana, specifically the lack of quality water supply and sanitation, eventually resolved by the community. As a result, the author saw an opportunity for growth in overpopulated urban locales.

The 2016 Hult Prize President's Challenge is a response to statistics backing the inequality of populations in urban locations; university students are tasked with doubling the income of millions through connectivity and are allowed to approach the challenge with flexibility.

For quarter-finalists, there was an emphasis on using research and evidence for truly productive and non-disruptive solutions.
