Washington Monthy announced that it will begin to highlight successes in Philanthropies in a new series called, The Successes of Philanthropies. New stories, which will be added weekly, will highlight successful investments and innovative programming in a non-partisan manner. Further, the new series will also touch upon policies in impact investing and asset building. Without such a series, the stories of how to effectively invest and help organizations could be not heard by the public.
One of the main stories highlighted was of Los Angeles Resident, Dorothy. Dorothy was homeless, living under the Freeway overpass, and addicted to drugs. She craved housing and, through an organization highlighted by The Washington Monthly called HousingWorks, she was placed in a supportive housing program. Dorothy now is back on her feet as a community advocate for the homeless.
