Podcast: How Nonprofits Can — and Must — Use Research Effectively

credit:

A new podcast asserts that to determine which charities and philanthropic organizations are most effective, rigorous research should be the basis for making a new decision. Caroline Fiennes likens nonprofits to "medieval medicine, where the doctor doesn't really know either". Ms. Fiennes, an author, physicist and the founder of Giving Evidence, an organization that promotes philanthropic practices based on data, makes these claims on The Business of Giving podcast.

In the podcast below, Fiennes discusses research that shows why charities with high overhead are actually more effective than those without. She also explains why charities should never do research to promote their own effectiveness and shares data on whether the impact of their donations really impacts donors.
